Yokogawa Electric Releases CENTUM VP R6.10 Integrated Production Control System

Development Background
Often, processes and large numbers of turbines in a plant are controlled with different systems, which means that users must manage and operate multiple systems. To solve this problem, Yokogawa Electric worked with CCC to develop CCC InsideTM for Yokogawa Electric's CENTUM VP. The solution, which was released in November 2021, enables the CENTUM VP to control both processes and turbines.

For the many different turbines and compressor packages in a plant, the customer wanted a single production control system to extend control and simplify operations, engineering and maintenance. Yokogawa Electric has developed the latest version of the CENTUM VP system in order to realize integrated control of both the turbine that drives the compressor and the compressor unit, and to expand the control range of Yokogawa Electric's CENTUM VP CCC InsideTM.

Main Features
Expanded control range to support turbine control of driven compressors
With this version, it is possible to control the turbine that drives the compressor using the CCC control algorithm running on the CENTUM VP. In this way, the entire compressor system, including turbine control, can be monitored and controlled from the same human-machine interface (HMI) used for conventional process control. Using the same hardware to perform these functions both simplifies engineering, procurement and maintenance, reduces the need for spare parts, lowers maintenance costs, and helps reduce the amount of work involved in maintenance planning and implementation.

Optimization through integrated control of multiple compressor units
Yokogawa Electric, in cooperation with CCC, has developed a function block for integrated control of multiple compressor units, enabling control of multiple compressor units, many of which exist in customer plants, and overall optimized control by distributing compressor loads.
Main target markets
Oil and gas, petrochemicals, chemicals, electric power, etc.

Main Applications
Turbine control of driven compressors and integrated control of multiple compressor units
